Women's Lacrosse Rolls Past Marian 19-1

FOND DU LAC - The Carthage women's lacrosse team hit the road for the first time this season with a trip to MArian University for a game against the Sabres. It was a dominating performance for the Firebirds as the team came away with a convincing 19-1 victory.

How it Happened

FIRST QUARTER
  • August Claridge got the Firebirds on the board with a goal on a free position shot with 12:34 on the clock. Claridge scored again just over three minutes later (9:23) to give the Firebirds a 2-0 lead. 
  • Kyleigh Higgins scored with 7:21 left in the quarter before Claridge added two more goals to the scoreboard at 4:57 and 3:54. 
  • Piper LeFevre scored on a free position shot (2:28) before Claridge registered her fifth goal of the opening quarter.
  • Shannon Heitschmidt scored with seven seconds left to give the Firebirds an 8-0 lead to end the quarter.

SECOND QUARTER
  • Heitschmidt kept the scoring going with a goal just over a minute into the quarter. Claridge (9:08) and Heitschmidt (7:27) tallied two more goals to boost the Carthage lead to 12-0.
  • LeFevre scored another free position goal to end the half with the Firebirds up 13-0.

THIRD QUARTER
  • LeFevre (11:56) scored first to start the third quarter.
  • Heitschmidt tallied the only other goal in the third quarter at 8:24 to give the Firebirds a 15-0 lead heading into the fourth.

FOURTH QUARTER
  • LeFevre scored an advantage goal to open the scoring in the final quarter.
  • Ari Solomon registered her first career goal with 10:31 to play.
  • LeFevre (9:01) and Higgins (3:04) scored the final two goals for the Firebirds to boost the lead to 19-0.
  • The Sabres got on the board with a goal from Emma Heide with 1:35 left in the game.

High Flyers
  • Claridge led the way with seven goals on 10 shots.
  • LeFevre finished with five goals and two assists.
  • Heitschmidt registered four goals and an assist.
  • Kara Jaynes got the win in goal for the Firebirds with one save and no goals allowed.

Coach's Remarks

""Really happy with the win," said Head Coach Maddie Berni. "We came out fast and kept pushing! Had a lot of different goal scores, Ari getting her first collegiate goal! Defense and goalies did a great job holding them to 1 goal. Ready to get back to work for our game Wednesday against Aurora."
