Firebirds Topple No. 12 Baldwin Wallace at Home

KENOSHA — The No. 8 Carthage College men's volleyball team returned to Tarble Arena for the third consecutive day of the FrogJump Invite, defeating the No. 12 Baldwin Wallace Yellow Jackets 3-1.

How it Happened
  • Carthage traded point-for-point, never exceeding a lead of two throughout the beginning of the first set. 
  • A kill from Ryan Cholewinski sparked a short run to lead early on 11-7. 
  • The Firebirds held their lead throughout the first set, where a strong block from Hudson Sweitzer and Cholewinski raised their lead to 17-10. 
  • Owen Otto came in hot with two back-to-back kills that advanced the Firebirds lead 22-12. 
  • Carthage held onto their lead, taking the first set 25-14 
  • Baldwin Wallace and Carthage battled throughout the second set. A 5-0 run from the visitors gave them a three-point advantage early on. 
  • The Yellow Jackets held onto their lead well throughout the second set. However, a kill from Otto sparked a 4-0 run, bringing the Firebirds within two. 
  • Carthage fought valiantly against Baldwin Wallace but ultimately succumbed to them 25-22. 
  • The two teams traded blows, holding even on the scoreboard throughout the set, never advancing past two points against each other. 
  • Carthage extended a 3-1 run after a service error from Baldwin Wallace, and two kills from Otto brought the Firebirds up 21-18. 
  • The Firebirds held a two-point lead against the Yellow Jackets for the remainder of the set, taking the 3rd 25-23. 
  • Ben Heise and Otto came in with a pair of kills early into the fourth set to bring the Firebirds into the lead 5-3. 
  • Hudson Sweitzer added fuel to the flame with two back-to-back service aces to give Carthage a five-point advantage, 9-4. 
  • The Firebirds held their lead of five points for the remainder of the match, taking the final set 25-20.
