HIRAM, Ohio — The Carthage women's wrestling team competed in the Terrier Round Robin on Sunday afternoon. It was a strong day for the Firebirds, as the team finished with multiple podium placements and two individual champions.



At 103, Kirsten Cortez finished in first place with a record of 3-0 with three falls, while Crystal Gutierrez placed third with a 1-2 record and a fall victory.

At 110, Karina Torres finished in third place in the tournament with a 3-2 record which included two falls and a tech fall.

At 124, Alaina Hollendoner finished in fourth place with a record of 3-2 and three fall victories.

At 160, Josie Hosea finished in first place with a perfect 5-0 record that included a tech fall.

At 207, Jasmin Ocampo finished in third place with a 3-2 record and two falls.



"If I had to pick one word to summarize our performance, it's 'resiliency'," said Head Coach Tarkyia Mensah. "Today we weren't just wrestling our opponents; we were wrestling our own limits. The team fought hard and stuck with it, despite the long day - earning not only the physical reps but the much needed mental reps too. I'm proud of them for being coachable and supporting each other through the grind. Their efforts are snowballing, and they're seeing it too."



The Firebirds (3-3) return to action on Friday, Dec. 19 as the team is set to compete at the Northern Michigan University Duals in Marquette, Mich. For more information, visit athletics.carthage.edu.
