Carthage Gains Experience at Windy City Classic in Des Plaines

DES PLAINES — The Carthage College women's bowling team traveled to Des Plaines, Illinois, over the weekend to compete in the Windy City Classic, hosted by Valparaiso University at River Rand Bowl.

The team continued to show progress and gain valuable experience throughout the three-day event. Carthage had opportunities to win eight of its 13 matches, but mental lapses and missed spares proved costly.

Friday's highlights included freshman Emmary Arciiega-Sanchez, who converted 91.6 percent of her single-pin spares, and freshman Kyleah Baker, who led the team in strike percentage at 38.8 percent.

On Saturday, freshman Torin Deacon averaged 170.6 over five games, junior Maxine Lathrop averaged 171.2 through four games, and sophomore Alicyn Klok was perfect on single-pin attempts.
During Sunday's competition, sophomore Airie Frost converted 80 percent of her multi-pin spares and posted a 75 percent fill rate, while sophomore Emma Winter added a 75 percent conversion rate on multi-pin spares.

Carthage will split into two squads next weekend, traveling to Rockford, Illinois, to compete in the Leatherneck Classic at Cherry Bowl.
