Firebirds Dominate Senior Night with Record-Setting Win Over Illinois Wesleyan

KENOSHA – The Firebirds took on the Illinois Wesleyan Titans on senior night in a high-scoring showdown. Carthage controlled the match from start to finish, allowing just two goals. Senior goalkeeper Ainsley Stallworth commanded the cage, anchoring the defense. The Firebirds' seven-goal performance marked their highest single-game total since 2011 against Rutgers-Newark and set a program record for most goals scored against Illinois Wesleyan. With the win, the Firebirds extend their streak to two and remain undefeated in CCIW play at 2-0.

The Basics
  • Final Score: Carthage 7- Illinois Wesleyan 2
  • Location: Kenosha Wis., Art Keller Field
  • Records: Carthage (6-4-2), Illinois Wesleyan (5-5-1)

How it Happened
  • After a 17-minute-long scoring drought, the Firebirds hit the back of the net first off a Peyton Olinski goal assisted by Emma Amberg (1-0). The scoring frenzy continued when senior Jess Beymer and Bella Fusco both hit back-to-back top corner goals to make the score a quick 3-0.
  • The second half got off to a rocky start for the Birds when the Titans scored off a penalty kick for Illinois Wesleyan. However, Peyton Olinski scored her second goal of the game to make it 4-1. The Birds never looked back with goals from Eve Hockerman, Lydia Sachs, and Gianna Giangrasso. A late goal from the Titans would not be enough to complete a comeback, making the final score 7-2.
High Flyers
  • Olinski led the Birds with two goals while Beymer, Fusco, and Giangrosso all contributed one.
  • Stallworth held down the net for the full 90 minutes, allowing only one goal with 7 saves
