Men’s Wrestling Tops Illinois Wesleyan 41-14; Drops to MSOE 43-6 in Doubleheader

MILWAUKEE - The Carthage College men's wrestling team slit competition at MSOE on Monday, January 6 defeating Illinois Wesleyan 41-14 before falling to host MSOE 43-6.

At 125 pounds, Chris Kish pinned Illinois Wesleyan's Chandler Gardner at 1:45, giving Carthage an early 6-0 lead.
At 133 pounds, Tate Stockman secured a victory via forfeit, extending the team score to 12-0.
In the 141-pound match, Austin Johnston of Illinois Wesleyan achieved a technical fall over Carter Leiber, 16-0, closing the gap to 12-5.
At 149 pounds, Ameer Alamawi of Illinois Wesleyan edged out Elijah Zepeda with a 25-18 decision, narrowing the score to 12-8.
Evan Carel of Illinois Wesleyan pinned Joey Barnett in the 157-pound bout at 4:19, pushing IWU ahead 14-12.
In the 165-pound contest, CJ Gilbert dominated Lucas Blanton of Illinois Wesleyan in a technical fall, 17-1, reclaiming the lead for Carthage at 17-14.
Maxwell Becker earned six points with a forfeit win at 174 pounds, expanding the lead to 23-14.
At 184 pounds, Devin Rogers also capitalized on a forfeit to stretch the team score to 29-14.
Diego Fuentes pinned Elijah Villegas of Illinois Wesleyan in the 197-pound match at 3:35, adding six more points to Carthage's total, making it 35-14.
Heavyweight Mason Kochersperger capped off the event with a forfeit victory, bringing the final score to 41-14 in favor of Carthage.

At 125 pounds, Jesse Johnson of MSOE pinned Chris Kish at 2:11, giving MSOE an early 6-0 lead.
At 133 pounds, Liam Anderson of MSOE extended the lead by pinning Zach Miller at 1:32, making it 12-0.
In the 141-pound match, Max Sanderfoot of MSOE secured a fall over Carter Leiber at 5:58, bringing the score to 18-0.
At 149 pounds, Conor Nagela of MSOE achieved a technical fall, 18-1, against Elijah Zepeda, increasing the MSOE lead to 23-0.
Javier Sevilla of MSOE pinned Joey Barnett in the 157-pound bout at 4:08, pushing the score to 29-0.
At 165 pounds, Toren Vandenbush of MSOE claimed a 14-1 major decision over CJ Gilbert, extending the advantage to 33-0.
In the 174-pound match, Jackson Hughes of MSOE secured a 10-1 major decision against Collin Ruiz, making it 37-0.
At 184 pounds, Gavin Graham of MSOE edged out Devin Rogers in a 4-0 decision, bringing the score to 40-0.
Jake Schmitt of MSOE defeated Diego Fuentes in the 197-pound match with a 5-2 decision, increasing the tally to 43-0.
Heavyweight Mason Kochersperger earned a forfeit win, putting Carthage on the board and concluding the meet with a 43-6 victory for MSOE.

Carthage returns home for a dual meet competition against Aurora on Thursday, January 16 at 7 p.m.
