ROCK ISLAND — The Carthage College women's wrestling team traveled to the Quad Cities on Sunday to compete in the 2025 CCIW Women's Wrestling Championships at Augustana College. It was another strong outing for the Firebirds, who came away with a fourth place team finish and a pair of All-CCIW individuals.

Kirsten Cortez opened the tournament with a 10-0 tech fall loss to Aurora's Genesis Ramirez.Cortez then fell to Brianne Graves (North Central) with a 10-0 tech fall. In the third round, Cortez bounced back with a 10-0 tech fall win over Evalinda Castrejon (Elmhurst). Cortez finished in third place, scoring 5.5 team points and earning All-CCIW honors.

Rebecca Di Silvestro opened with a 10-0 tech fall loss to teammate Natalie Majer. Di Silvestro then fell to Liz Ramirez (Augustana) with a 10 tech fall, before falling to Mikayla Garcia (North Central) with a 10-0 tech fall. Di Silvestro's day ended with a loss to Sharon Moreno (Aurora) with a fall at 0:53.

After defeating Di Silvestro in the opening round, Majer won by fall over Moreno after 42 seconds. Majer then used a 10-0 tech fall to defeat Ramirez, before falling to Garcia with a 3-0 decision. Majer finished in second place, scoring 11 points and earning All-CCIW honors.

Jennifer Villagomez opened with a loss to Lanie Cecala (Augustana) after a 10-2 decision. Villagomez received a bye before losing to Olga Turiy (Aurora) with a 13-1 tech fall. In the fifth place match, Villagomez fell to Lilian Hernandez (Fall 0:55). Villagomez placed sixth and scored six points.

Adele Senzig started the day off with a loss to Aine Moffit (Augustana) (Fall 5:27). Senzig then fell to Caylynn Chandler (North Central) with a 10-0 tech fall. Senzig later dropped a 16-8 decision to Sydney Perry (North Central). Senzig ended the day on a high note, winning a 4-4 decision over Makayla Howard (Aurora).

Izzee Nelson-Carillo lost by fall at 1:04 to Clara Rice (Elmhurst) and then to Lizzie Raleigh (North Central) at 0:10. Nelson-Carillo then dropped back to back 10-0 tech falls to Antonio Phillips (Aurora) and Maryam Ndiaye (Augustana).



The Firebirds (0-4) are back in action on Saturday, Feb. 1 as the team travels to Des Moines, Iowa to compete in the Grand View University Open.
