STEVENS POINT — The Carthage College women's wrestling team traveled north for a Thursday night dual match against the Wis-Stevens Point Pointers. The Firebirds got off to a strong start with a pair of victories early in the dual, but the Pointers rallied back to earn the win on their home mat.



Kirsten Cortez got the Firebirds on the board in the 103 division with an 8-3 decision victory over Kelly Enriquez. The Pointers found the scoreboard with a win by forfeit at the 110 division before Natalie Majer earned the win at the 117 division by defeating Allison Hunter with a fall at the 1:24 mark. The Pointers claimed victory at 124 and 131 by forfeit to pull ahead of the Firebirds at the halfway point. Jennifer Villagomez was defeated by Brooke Schuenemann with a fall at 0:59. Cadie Percy defeated Adele Senzig by a 10-2 decision in the 145 division and Taylor Schulz defeated Izzee Nelson-Carrillo with a fall at 0:53 in the 160 division. The Pointers won by forfeit at 180 and 207 to finish off the match.



The Firebirds (0-4) are back in action on Sunday, Jan. 26 as the team travels to Rock ISland, Ill. to compete in the CCIW Championships at Augustana College. Carthage women's wrestling returns to Tarble Arena on Thursday, Feb. 13 as the Firebirds host Elmhurst and Joliet. For more information, visit athletics.carthage.edu.
