Firebirds Open Strong but Fall to Stevens Point

STEVENS POINT — The Carthage College men's wrestling team fell to Wisconsin-Stevens Point on Thursday 32-6.

Competing at 125 pounds, Chris Kish earned Carthage an early advantage with a 10-3 decision over Blaze Thurber, putting the Firebirds on the board first.
In the 133-pound matchup, Aidan Fonder of UW-Stevens Point responded with a 15-2 major decision over Zach Miller, giving the Pointers the lead.
At 141 pounds, Riese Thornberry extended UW-Stevens Point's advantage with an 18-7 major decision against Cole Nelson.
Maddox Rye secured a 5-2 decision over Elijah Zepeda in the 149-pound bout, adding to the Pointers' lead.
Zaren Anderson bounced back at 157 pounds with a hard-fought 6-3 decision over Dylan Cariveau, narrowing the deficit.
In the 165-pound contest, Josh Heuss edged CJ Gilbert in a 4-0 decision, earning additional points for the Pointers.
At 174 pounds, No. 13 Carson Trotzer claimed victory for UW-Stevens Point with a fall over Joey Barnett in just 1:03.
Easton Hull extended the Pointers' lead at 184 pounds with a 9-3 decision against Devin Rogers.
In the 197-pound matchup, Logan Neitzel added six points for UW-Stevens Point with a fall over Diego Fuentes at 5:48.
Blake Flach closed the match at heavyweight with a 7-2 decision over Mason Kochersperger, securing the 32-6 victory for UW-Stevens Point.

Carthage hosts the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Duals on Saturday, January 25 taking on Augustana (Ill.) starting at 12 p.m.
