LANSING - The Carthage College women's bowling team competed at the inaugural Division III Invitational at the Royal Scot Bowl in Lansing, Michigan. The tournament featured a traditional format on Day 1 and Baker matches on Day 2.
Day 1: Traditional Format
The Firebirds began competition with a bye in the first match, rolling an 833 series led by senior
Jessica Rosa's 201 game. In Match 2 against Augustana (Ill.),
Alicyn Klok posted a team-high 204, but Carthage fell short with a total score of 857 to Augustana's 915. Facing Aurora in Match 3, the team encountered lane transition challenges and dropped the match 775-901. Carthage bounced back in Match 4, securing an 883-845 victory over Penn State Behrend, with Rosa and freshman
Emma Winter each rolling a 196. The day concluded with a narrow 826-845 loss to Elmhurst, despite freshman
Airie Frost contributing an 184. Carthage finished Day 1 with a 1-3 record.
Day 2: Baker Format
The Firebirds opened Day 2 with a tightly contested 830-820 win over Penn State Behrend. In Match 2, they fell to Aurora 841-906 before struggling with lane conditions again in a 775-909 loss to Augustana. Carthage bowled an 801 in the bye round before delivering their best performance of the season in the final match, defeating Elmhurst 964-850. Carthage wrapped up the tournament with a 2-2 record on Day 2 and an overall tournament record of 3-5, finishing in fourth place.
The Firebirds will compete at the Viking Classic in Milan, Illinois, on February 15-16.
