MILAN – The Carthage College women's bowling team competed at the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) No. 1 Conference Tournament, hosted at Backyard Bowl in Milan, Illinois, finishing with a 3-3 record to tie for fourth place.
Day 1 Recap – Baker Matches
The Firebirds opened the tournament with three five-game Baker matches. In the first matchup, Carthage claimed a decisive 705-556 victory over Illinois Wesleyan. The second match against Marian saw the Firebirds struggle with spare shooting, resulting in a 669-804 loss. In the final match of the day, Carthage engaged in a tight back-and-forth battle with Carroll, ultimately falling short by just 14 pins, 788-802. The team concluded day one with a 1-2 record.
Day 2 Recap – Traditional Matches
On day two, Carthage bounced back with three traditional game matches. The Firebirds opened strong with an 806-728 win over Aurora, highlighted by standout performances from sophomore Maxine Lathrop, who rolled a 187 game, and first-year Airie Frost, who contributed a 168.
The second match against host Augustana proved challenging, as spare shooting woes returned in a 719-771 defeat. Senior Jessica Rosa led the team with a 177 game.
In the final match, Carthage delivered a thrilling finish against Elmhurst, securing an 887-847 victory thanks to Rosa striking out in the 10th frame. Rosa led the way with a 201 game, while Lathrop rolled a 202, and junior Isabel Gonzalez added a 177. Carthage ended the day with a 2-1 record, finishing the tournament at 3-3 overall.
With the first semester completed, the Firebirds will return to action on Jan. 11-12 at the Storm Baker Challenge in Addison, Illinois.
