KENOSHA — The Carthage College women's wrestling team hosted the Aurora Spartans in Tarble Arena on Thursday evening. The Firebirds battled hard, but fell behind early and were defeated by the Spartans 31-9.


Kirsten Cortez opened the dual at 103 pounds with a loss to Genesis Ramirez with a 10-0 tech fall (3:32). Aurora's Mia Moore won by forfeit at 110 pounds. Natalie Majer got the Firebirds on the scoreboard with a win over Sharon Moreno at 117 pounds, earning an 11-0 tech fall at the 2:38 mark. Alaina Hollendoner was defeated at 124 with a 10-0 tech fall by Bethany Regione (5:22). The Spartans earned a victory by forfeit at 131 pounds before Madison Cook earned a win for the Firebirds at 138 pounds with a 10-0 tech fall over Lilian Hernandez. The Spartans earned another victory with Makayla Howard defeating Adele Senzig with a 14-4 tech fall at 145. Izzee Nelson-Carillo fell to Antonia Phillips with a 10-0 tech fall at 160 pounds. The Spartans closed out the dual with a win by forfeit at 180 pounds.



The Firebirds (0-3) are back in action on Saturday, Jan. 19 at the Alma College Open in Alma, Mich. Carthage women's wrestling returns to Tarble Arena on Thursday, Feb. 13  as the Firebirds host Elmhurst and Joliet. For more information, visit athletics.carthage.edu.
