Johnson and Johnson Combine for 43 as Firebirds Defeat Millikin

KENOSHA  The Carthage men's basketball team attained a hard-fought 64-55 win over Milikin Saturday afternoon at Tarble Arena. 

The Basics
  • Final Score: Carthage 64 - Millikin 55
  • Location: Kenosha, Wisconsin - Tarble Arena 
  • Records: Carthage 10-4 (4-1 CCIW), Milikin 9-5 (3-2 CCIW)  

How it Happened
  • Milikin opened the game with a 4-2 run to start. However, the Firebirds retaliated with a 12-0 run with points from Griffin Daun, Ryan Johnson, and Nemi Ostojic to lead 14-4
  • The Carthage defense ceased the Big Blues' attempt at gaining an advantage, trading point-for-point, finishing for halftime 29-23. 
  • Milikin opened the second half with a 6-0 run, tying the game 29-29 three minutes into the second half. 
  • Another run from Milikin managed to flip the score in their favor 42-31. 
  • The Firebirds rallied to catch up to the Big Blue with a 7-0 run of their own, lessening the deficit to four with a jumper from AJ Johnson with 11:20 left in the game. 
  • After jumpers from Daun and AJ Johnson followed by a Colton Siegel three-pointer, gave the Firebirds a 46-44 score.
  • AJ Johnson hit a three-pointer for a 53-51 margin with 3:27 remaining.  
  • A set of free throws from Milikin tied the game at 53, Ryan Johnson retaliated with a three-pointer, followed by a layup from AJ Johnson making it 58-55. 
  • Carthage held onto their lead throughout the final minutes game, defeating Millikin 64-55.
