Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Comes Up Short Against MSOE

MSOE 1, Carthage 0
KENOSHA - The Carthage men's soccer hosted the MSOE Raiders at Art Keller Field on Tuesday evening. It was a tough night for the Firebirds, as the team found themselves out-shot and out-scored by the Raiders in regular time.

How it Happened

The Raiders controlled the offensive tempo from early on in the first half with 13 shots taken and eight shots on goal. The Raiders put away the game winning goal in the 19th minute with a shot off the left foot of Lukas Schwenke, with the assist coming from Tanner Cellio. The Raiders took the 1-0 lead to the half, while Carthage mustered just four shots, with one shot from Eli Schoffstall being one goal.

The Firebirds saw their fair share of chances to level the score in the second half, out shooting the Raiders in the period 8-4 with three shots being on goal, but ultimately could not put away the equalizer before the final buzzer sounded at the end of the 90th minute.

Coach's Remarks

"We had a poor start to the game tonight," said Head Coach Paul Leese. "We did not work hard enough in the first half and we're made to pay by a good team like MSOE. We picked it up in the second half, but we had already dug ourselves a hole and gave our opponent a reason to fight and hang on. Hopefully this is a sobering lesson that we learned tonight and it will help us grow for our next game."

Coach's Remarks
  • Evan Kowalski made a season-high nine saves in the match, with seven saves coming in the first half.
  • Aidan Crowder took four shots, with two being on goal.
