Carthage Baseball Gets Win No. 15 of the Season Beating Ripon 9-5

RIPON, Wis.  — The Carthage College baseball team returned to the diamond on Tuesday, defeating Ripon 9-5 on the road.

How it Happened 
  • Ripon seized an early advantage by scoring three runs in the second inning, but Carthage narrowed the margin to two when a bases-loaded hit batter crossed the plate.
  • P.J. Moser leveled the score at three with a powerful two-RBI double to left center.
  • A defensive miscue by Ripon in the third inning allowed Zander Tubbs to touch home plate, giving Carthage the lead.
  • Joe Zuleger's sacrifice fly to left field in the fourth inning extended Carthage's lead to 5-3 after Evan Devine crossed home plate.
  • Another hit batter brought Moser home in the fifth inning, followed by Max Cairo's sacrifice fly that scored AJ Gaca.
  • Despite Ripon scoring two runs in the sixth inning, Carthage responded strongly in the seventh with a two-run homer from Kody Krekling.
  • Nick Caruso delivered a dominant performance on the mound, pitching a scoreless eighth inning with a strikeout, popout, and groundout. In the ninth inning, he secured the victory for Carthage with a popout, swinging strikeout, and flyout.
