Men's Volleyball Sweeps Vikings, Secures CCIW Co-Regular Season Title

KENOSHA, Wis. — The No. 7 ranked Carthage College men's volleyball team closed the regular season with a straight-set sweep of Augustana (Ill.) on Senior Day. The Firebirds earned a share of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) regular season title.

How it Happened
  • Carthage started set one with a serve by Justin Girodat to gain the first point. 
  • A kill from Ryan Cholewinski gave the Firebirds a quick 3-0 run for 6-3 score. 
  • Augustana caught up to the Firebirds with a 4-0 run of their own before Carthage brought it back, tying the match at 11. 
  • The Vikings tied the set six times before a kill from Cholewinski put the Firebirds ahead by one, 18-17. 
  • Carthage held on to their advantage throughout and ended the set 25-20 after a kill from Keegan Brumitt
  • The Firebirds came in hot for the second set, starting with a 4-1 run. 
  • Carthage stopped Augustana from advancing, reaching a five-point lead after a block from Ben Heise and Cholewinski to lead 11-6. 
  • Augustana and Carthage matched each other point for point, but the Firebirds edged ahead to claim a 25-19 win in the second set, maintaining a narrow lead throughout.
  • Carthage opened the third set with a powerful play, as Brumett's kill secured the first point. 
  • The Firebirds surged ahead with a 6-2 run, establishing a commanding seven-point lead at 12-5.
  • Easton Gavin's ace propelled the Firebirds to a nine-point advantage, 21-12.
  • Carthage maintained their lead as the Vikings struggled to close the gap, securing the set 25-18 and the match.
