KENOSHA, Wis. - The Carthage women's lacrosse team hosted the North Central Cardinals at Art Keller Field on Saturday afternoon. It was a special day for the Firebirds, who recognized the Class of 2024 which included Hannah Kohlert and Alessandra Almendarez in a pregame ceremony before coming away with a big win over the Cardinals.

Quarter 1:

Carthage was the first to find the back of the net with an unassisted goal from Bailey Koestel just one minute into the contest.
The visitors quickly settled the score with a goal, but the Firebirds pushed ahead with a goal from Shannon Heitschmidt, assisted by Emma McDonald.
Carthage continued their run with goals from Rosie Nolan and Koestel, making the score 4-1 at the end of the first quarter.

Quarter 2:

The Firebirds continued extending their advantage throughout the second quarter with goals from Hannah Kim, Kyleigh Higgins, Heitschmidt, Nolan, and Koestel for a hat trick.
Carthage furthered their lead when August Claridge scored back to back goals, making the score 12-1 going into the halftime.

Quarter 3:

The Cardinals ended Carthage's run with a goal in the beginning of the second half. However, the Firebird retaliated with a goal from Claridge for a hat trick, assisted by Kim.
Claridge found the back of the net again shortly after with a goal assisted by McDonald.
The visitors scored their third goal of the competition, but the Firebirds quickly responded with a goal by Heitschmidt for a hat trick.
The fourth hat trick of the contest for the Firebirds was earned after Higgins scored her third goal, assisted by Heitschmidt.
North Central lessened the advantage by scoring a goal, making the score 16-4 at the end of the third quarter.

Quarter 4:

The visitors were the first to find the back of the net in the final quarter with two consecutive goals, but Carthage struck back with a goal by Kaitlyn Goff, her first goal of the contest.
Higgins stretched the Firebirds lead with her fourth goal of the game, making Carthage victorious at a score of 18-6.

Claridge and Higgins lead the way with four goals each. Higgins also earned three assists, while Claridge earned one.
Heitschmidt scored three goals and had a team-high four assists.
Almendarez earned seven saves on the way to earning another win for the Firebirds

The Firebirds return to action on Wednesday, April 24 as the team heads to Waukesha, Wis. for a game against Carroll. Carthage lacrosse returns to Art Keller Field on Saturday, April 27 at 1 p.m. as Carthage hosts UChicago for the regular season finale. For more information, visit athletics.carthage.edu.
