WAUKESHA, Wis. - The Carthage women's lacrosse team traveled to take on the Carroll Pioneers on Wednesday evening. It was a tight defensive battle for most of the game, but a strong fourth quarter lifted the Pioneers over the Firebirds with a 9-5 win.

Quarter 1

August Claridge got the Firebirds on the board first with an unassisted goal.
Back to back goals gave the Pioneers an early 2-1 lead.
Claridge scored again with the assist going to Kyleigh Higgins. Emma McDonald scored to end the quarter and give the Firebirds a 3-2 lead.

Quarter 2:

Defenses prevailed in the second quarter with the Pioneers scoring the lone goal to tie the game at 3-3 heading into halftime.

Quarter 3:

A pair of goals in the third quarter gave Carroll a 5-3 lead with 15 minutes left in the game.

Quarter 4:

Higgins scored to open the scoring in the final period and cut the Carroll lead to 5-4.
Four unanswered goals would extend the Pioneer lead to 9-4 with just under four minutes to play.
Claridge would score again in the final minute as the Firebirds fell on the road.

Claridge led the Firebirds with 3 goals and 1 assist.
Higgins scored 1 goal and earned an assist.
Alessandra Almendarez made 6 saves in goal.
