Carthage Firebirds Secure Weekend Sweep Against Elmhurst, Clinch Fifth Consecutive Victory

KENOSHA, Wis.  — On a 70-degree sunny Sunday afternoon, the Carthage College baseball team picked up a 7-4 win over Elmhurst for the weekend sweep. 

The Basics
  • Final score: Carthage 7 - Elmhurst 4
  • Location: Kenosha, Wisconsin - Augie Schmidt Field
  • Records: Carthage 18-7 (6-4 CCIW), Elmhurst 6-21 (2-9 CCIW)  


How it Happened 
 
  • The Bluejays started scoring with an RBI double to center field.
  • Carthage retaliated with three runs during the second, fueled by a two-RBI double courtesy of Kody Krekling.
  • Although Elmhurst managed a lone run in the fourth, narrowing the gap to 3-2, Carthage extended their lead to four runs in the sixth inning. This surge was propelled by a solo home run from AJ Gaca, a sacrifice fly from Krekling, and an RBI single from P.J. Moser.
  • The visiting team secured additional runs in the sixth inning, but another RBI single from Krekling widened Carthage's margin to 7-4.
  • Nick Caruso assumed pitching duties in the ninth inning, culminating in a double play and a fielder's choice that secured victory for the Firebirds.

High Flyers
  • Kody Krekling went four-for-four in the game with two doubles and four runs batted in. 
  • AJ Gaca hit his sixth homer of the season while on the mound, Brendan Roberts pitched 7.1 innings, striking out six. 
  • Trey Zastrow picked up his second save of the season, only allowing one hit.
