Records Fall as Carthage Torches Augustana

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The Carthage women's lacrosse team concluded a brief two-game road trip with a game against the Augustana Vikings on Saturday afternoon. It was a strong performance for the Firebirds, who broke the school record for team goals in a single game and individual goals scored in a single game.

How it Happened

Quarter 1:
Quarter 2:
  • McDonald and Heitschmidt scored early in the quarter to extend the Firebirds lead to 13-0, before Augustana found the scoreboard with 7:49 to play in the half.
  • Claridge scored two more goals in the quarter, as Koestel ended the half with another goal to give the Firebirds a 16-1 lead heading into the half.

Quarter 3: 
  • Higgins scored to open the quarter, extending the lead to 17-1.
  • A Viking goal cut the deficit to 15 goals.
  • Higgins, Heitschmidt, and Claridge combined for three unanswered goals before the Vikings found a way to score again.
  • Claridge would score again to end the quarter and the Firebirds led 22-3 heading into the fourth quarter.

Quarter 4: 
  • The Firebirds went on a 5-0 to close out the game.
  • Claridge scored two more goals.
  • Higgins, Stephanie Leibinger, and Rosie Nolan all scored goals as the Firebirds finished off a record-breaking performance.

High Flyers
 
  • Claridge led the way with 10 goals, a new Carthage program single-game record. She also earned two assists, three caused turnovers, and six ground balls on the day.
  • Higgins finished with six goals, one assist, and two ground balls.
  • Heitschmidt had three goals and two assists.
  • Koestel finished with three goals and one assist.
