Firebirds Come Up Short in Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Carthage women's lacrosse team faced off against the Colorado Tigers on Saturday afternoon. It was a tough day for the Firebirds, as the Tigers jumped out to a big lead in the first half and held on for the win.

How it Happened

The Firebirds jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with goals from Bailey Koestel (unassisted) and Shannon Heitschmidt (Piper LeFevre assist). The Tigers responded with eight unanswered goals to close out the first quarter with an 8-2 lead.

The Tigers continued to add on to their lead, adding eight more goals in the second quarter. The Firebirds ended the scoring run with a LeFevre goal (August Claridge assist). The first half ended with the Tigers up 16-3. 

The Tigers added two more goals to their total, while the Firebirds added three goals in an attempt to claw their way back into the game. The goals came from Claridge (unassisted), Rosie Nolan (unassisted), and another goal from Claridge (Heitschmidt assist).

Hannah Kim (unassisted) and LeFevre (unassisted) tallied goals in the fourth, but the Firebirds would fall to the Tigers at the end of regulation.

  • Heitschmidt finished with one goal, one assist, and a pair of ground balls
