Career Night for LeFevre Leads Firebirds Past Falcons

MEQUON, Wis. - The Carthage women's lacrosse team faced off against the Concordia (Wis.) Falcons on Wednesday evening. The Firebirds looked to get back in the win column, while the Falcons looked to extend their winning streak to two games. The Firebirds offense was on fire from the opening whistle, and the team came away with a big win on the road.

How it Happened

The Firebirds jumped an early 3-0 lead with Piper LeFevre scoring a hat trick in the opening seven minutes of the game with three unassisted goals. LeFevre then assisted Shannon Heitschmidt with her first goal of the game to extend the lead to 4-0 with four minutes to go in the opening quarter. The Falcons found the back of the net to get on the board and end the first quarter down 4-1.

LeFevre scored two more unassisted goals to open the second quarter. The Firebirds then scored a pair of man-down goals that came from Heitschmidt (assist Emma McDonald) and August Claridge (Kyleigh Higgens). LeFevre tallied one more goal before the end of the second quarter to give the Firebirds a 9-1 advantage at halftime.

LeFevre kept up the scoring spree in the third quarter, scoring another pair of unassisted goals in the first three minutes. Heitschmidt earned a hat trick with a goal that was assisted by Claridge. The Falcons were able to end the 8-0 rally with a pair of goals in the middle of the quarter to cut the lead to 12-3. Claridge scored her second goal with 4:11 to play in the quarter, with the assist being credited to Rosie Nolan. The Firebirds entered the fourth quarter with a 13-3 advantage.

The Falcons scored just one minute into the quarter to cut the deficit to 13-4. Higgens answered right back with a man-up goal with 13:21 to play. Claridge and LeFevre each added another goal to their totals to extend the lead to 16-4. The Falcons tallied their final goal with 3:32 to play, while Claridge and Hannah Kim each found the back of the net before the game came to a close.
