Men's Volleyball Starts Week Strong with Straight-Set Win Against North Park

KENOSHA, Wis. — To start the week, the No. 10 Carthage College men's volleyball team picked up a straight-set victory over North Park on Wednesday night.

How it Happened
  • The first set witnessed an intense battle for control between both teams until Michael Yemm's ace ignited a 4-1 surge for Carthage.
  • North Park countered with a streak of five unanswered points until Ben Heise leveled the score at 21 with a decisive kill.
  • A succession of four consecutive points for the Firebirds secured the set victory, culminating in a kill from Ryan Cholewinski.
  • Carthage maintained its momentum in the second set, establishing a 13-9 lead through impactful kills delivered by Drew Jansen and Owen Otto.
  • In the latter part of the set, a crucial kill by Mitch Geiger widened the lead to 18-13, propelling Carthage to secure the set by dominating the scoring, clinching the set victory 25-16.
  • The Firebirds asserted a three-point advantage in the third set, highlighted by an ace from Geiger.
  • Consecutive kills from Otto further bolstered the lead, extending it to six points.
  • A decisive closing kill from Justin Ische secured the match for Carthage, securing a straight-set victory by a final score of 25-17.

High Flyers
  • Ben Heise totaled a match-best 10 kills on the day, followed by Owen Otto with nine. 
  • Ethan Sprague added six total blocks for Carthage, along with Gene McNulty leading the Firebirds in two categories: assists (33) and digs (five).
