Firebirds Notch 11th Win of the Season

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — On Saturday, the No. 10 Carthage College men's volleyball team beat Augustana (Ill.) 3-1. 

The Basics

How it Happened
  • The opening set witnessed the Vikings taking an early 14-6 lead.
  • Carthage responded resiliently, narrowing the score margin to 24-16 through a combined block by Ryan Cholewinski and Keegan Brumitt.
  • Augustana (Ill.) emerged victorious with a score of 25-17 in the first. 
  • The second set saw the Vikings and Carthage deadlocked at nine until a decisive 6-1 surge, highlighted by kills from Ethan Sprague and Owen Otto, propelled the visitors to a 15-10 advantage.
  • A kill from Ben Heise propelled Carthage to a six-point lead as Carthage took the set 25-19.
  • Brumitt contributed another kill in the third set, granting Carthage a narrow 10-9 edge. However, the Vikings reversed the momentum with a decisive kill, reclaiming the lead at 16-14.
  • Carthage mounted a comeback, leveling the score at 20-20 with a kill from Otto.
  • Despite Augustana (Ill.) edging ahead 25-24, Carthage won with three unanswered points, securing the set 27-25.
