  • Location: Rock Island, Illinois  - Carver PE Center
  • Records: Augustana (Ill.) 7-15 (4-9 CCIW), Carthage 14-7 (8-4 CCIW)
How it Happened
  • Julian Campbell tied the score at 14 with a layup early in the first half.
  • After Augustana (Ill.) went up by five, Carthage responded, getting within two with a layup and free throw from Fillip Bulatovic
  • Another layup from Campbell saw the home team's deficit shrink to 40-35 heading into halftime.
  • The Vikings pushed their lead to 10 in the second half before getting within two with a long-range bucket from Colton Sigel
  • Antuan Nesbitt sank a jumper and a free throw, making it a two-point score with 5:33 left in the half. Following an Augustana (Ill.) free throw, Bulatovic made a layup, then AJ Williams stole the ball, which led to a layup from Nesbitt.
  • The Vikings retaliated with a pair of free throws, tying the game at 79; neither team could sink the winning bucket as they headed to overtime.
  • Augustana (Ill.) went up by five to start overtime, but three straight points from Bulatovic cut the advantage to one.
  • The home team went back up by three; however, a layup from Bulatovic with five seconds left made it 86-85.
  • After two made free throws from Augustana (Ill.), Carthage had a good look at forcing another overtime period, but Sigel's three couldn't find the mark.

  • AJ Williams hauled down eight rebounds for Carthage, a season-best.

Coachs Remarks
"Can't keep putting ourselves in these situations late in games. We did enough today to win the basketball game, but couldn't close again. Like it's been for most of our losses on the year, we struggled at the free throw line down the stretch.

Need to show more of a sense of urgency throughout the game and be smarter with our decisions late.

Finally back to Tarble for three straight home games. Monday's practice needs to be the best one of the season to get back in the win column on Wednesday."

Team Results
  • Carthage returns home taking on North Park on Wednesday, February 7 at 7 p.m.
