HOFFMAN ESTATES — The Carthage College women's wrestling team competed in the Ken Kraft Midlands Championships hosted by Northwestern on Monday afternoon. The Firebirds finished in 12th place on the team scoreboard with 7.5 points

Kirsten Cortez opened the tournament with a loss by fall to Sienna Caruso (Lindenwood) at the 3:44 mark. Cortez then fell to Gabrialla Motz (Albion) with a fall at the 4:07 mark to be eliminated from the consolation bracket.

Natalie Majer opened with a bye in the first round of the championship bracket before defeating Keegan Gonzalez (Alma) with a fall at the 0:44 mark to advance to the quarterfinal. In the quarterfinal, Majer lost by fall (1:42) to Sydney Petzinger (North Central). Majer moved to the consolation bracket and ended the day with a loss to Eden Hernandez (North Central) with a 16-8 decision. Majer scored four points for the Firebirds.

Alaina Hollendoner received an opening round bye before losing by tech fall to Carissa Qureshi (Unattached) (TF 10-0). Hollendoner moved to the consolation bracket and defeated Abigail Geairn (Albion) with a 50 decision. Hollendoner ended the day with a defeat by fall against MaryAlice Lynch (Alma) (Fall 1:11). Hollendoner added 0.5 points to the team score.

Jennifer Villagomez received a bye before falling to Taina McGowan (Wyoming Seminary) with a fall at 0:38. Villagomez then received another bye before losing by fall at 0:40 to Callie Alfieri (North Central).

Adele Senzig opened the tournament with a win by fall over Maddie Hall (Wis-Stevens Point) at 0:29, before falling in the second round to Sarina Bertram (North Central) with a 10-0 tech fall. Senzig then received a bye in the consolation bracket before falling by tech fall to Keaton Hood (Albion).




The Firebirds (0-2) season continues in 2025 on Jan. 12 the squad competes in the Lakeland Scramble in Plymouth, Wis. Carthage women's wrestling returns to Tarble Arena on January 16 as the Firebirds host Aurora at 6 p.m. For more information, visit athletics.carthage.edu.
