Men’s Wrestling Shines with Multiple Top Finishes at Muskie Scramble

PLYMOUTH - The Carthage College men's wrestling team delivered a solid performance at the Muskie Scramble on Saturday at Lakeland. Chris Kish, Elijah Zepeda, Collin Ruiz, and Devin Rogers led the Firebirds with top-three finishes, while additional wrestlers earned key placements and points throughout the event.

125A Division

Chris Kish finished in third place, earning 14 points. Despite a first-round fall to MSOE's Jesse Johnson, Kish bounced back with a second-round pin over Juan Villa (Morton College) in 2:42, followed by a bye in Round three. In the third-place match, Kish pinned J.P. Culver (Wisconsin-Oshkosh) in 4:05.

133 Division

Tate Stockman secured seventh place with six points. Stockman faced tough rounds, falling to opponents from Concordia University Wisconsin and Harper College before claiming victory by medical forfeit in the seventh-place match against Nathan Schanen (Lakeland University).

149A Division

Elijah Zepeda also took third place, adding 14 points. Following a first-round bye, Zepeda achieved a second-round pin over Logan Andrews (Wisconsin-Oshkosh) in 6:42. Though defeated by Pedro Jimenez (Harper College) in Round three, Zepeda concluded his day with a pin over Angel Nava (Morton College) in 6:46.

149B Division

CJ Goy finished sixth with six points. After an initial fall to Joel Gonzalez (Harper College), Goy advanced with a bye in Round two but fell to Concordia's William Harrier in the third round. He ultimately lost in the fifth-place match to Mason Markham (Concordia).

165 Division

Joey Barnett ended in fifth place with zero points. Barnett faced challenging rounds, falling to opponents from Concordia, Harper College, MSOE, and Lakeland University.

174A Division

Collin Ruiz earned third place with 12 points. He recovered from a first-round major decision loss to Giles Cowell (Ellsworth CC) and received a bye in Round two. Ruiz went on to defeat MSOE's Diego Snell-Martinez by decision and pinned Concordia's Theodore Tj Mackey in 3:32 to secure third.

184A Division

Devin Rogers took second place with 8.5 points. Rogers opened with a 9-3 decision over Gavin Graham (MSOE) and followed up with a tech fall victory against Dawson Galvan (Concordia) before falling to Ali Adel (Harper College) in the final round.

197 Division

Diego Fuentes placed fourth with 12 points. Fuentes began with a pin over Evan Kachigian (Harper College) in 2:33 and won by major decision in Round Three but lost the third-place match to Ruben Vasquez (Concordia).

197 Division

Jared Werner earned fifth place and 11 points, opening with a tech fall loss to MSOE's Jake Schmitt, followed by a pin against Evan Kachigian (Harper). Werner went on to secure fifth by pinning teammate Elvis Muja in 0:45.

197 Division

Elvis Muja finished in sixth place with six points. Muja claimed a decision over Desmond Walker (Wisconsin-Oshkosh) but ultimately fell to teammate Jared Werner in the fifth-place match.

285A Division

Mason Kochersperger placed fourth, scoring 10 points. Following a bye in the first round, he fell to Wisconsin-Oshkosh's Garth Martell in a tiebreaker but claimed a major decision win in Round three. Kochersperger lost in the third-place match to Camden Harms (Wisconsin-Oshkosh).

285B Division

Christian Gielow finished third with three points. He won back-to-back decisions in the second and third rounds before falling in the following rounds to Concordia (Wis.) and Wisconsin-Oshkosh competitors.

Carthage returns to the mat on Friday, November 15 taking on Wheaton (Ill.) and Concordia (Wis.) starting at 7 p.m. in Mequon.
