Firebirds Prevail Over Lakeland in Home Opener

KENOSHA - The Carthage College men's wrestling team defeated Lakeland 27-18 in the season's home opener on Thursday night.

At 125 pounds, Chris Kish of Carthage pinned Andrew Cain of Lakeland at 2:58, giving Carthage an early 6-0 advantage.
Competing at 133 pounds, Nathan Schanen (Lakeland) dominated Loren Semler (Carthage) in a 17-2 technical fall at 6:18, narrowing the gap to 6-5.
In the 141-pound bout, Cole Nelson (Carthage) secured an 18-3 technical fall over Lucas Schanen (Lakeland) at 3:04, adding five points to Carthage's lead.
At 149 pounds, Jesse Burg (Lakeland) earned an 8-0 major decision against Elijah Zepeda (Carthage), closing the score to 11-9.
Zaren Anderson (Carthage) dominated the 157-pound match, achieving a 15-0 technical fall over Dillon Raab (Lakeland) at 4:06 to extend Carthage's lead by five points.
Evan Haferkorn of Lakeland controlled the 165-pound contest, defeating CJ Gilbert (Carthage) in an 8-1 decision, adding three points for the Muskies, and cutting the lead to 16-12.
Wrestling at 174 pounds, Collin Ruiz (Carthage) secured a 7-0 decision over David Aragon (Lakeland), adding three points to Carthage's score.
Devin Rogers (Carthage) showcased dominance in the 184-pound match, earning a 19-2 technical fall over Fulton Stroud (Lakeland) at 3:16 and giving Carthage a 24-12 advantage.
At 197 pounds, Jax Lipnitz (Lakeland) pinned Diego Fuentes (Carthage) at 4:07, earning six points to bring Lakeland closer at 24-18.
Heavyweight Mason Kochersperger (Carthage) sealed the victory with a narrow 2-1 decision over Diego Morales (Lakeland), securing the final score of 27-18.

Carthage will travel to Concordia (Wis.) for the CUW Open on Saturday, November 23 starting at 9 a.m.
