Women’s Volleyball Falls to No. 17 Wisconsin-Platteville

CHICAGO  — On Saturday, the Carthage College women's volleyball team fell to No. 17 Wisconsin-Platteville 3-0 to conclude the week of competition. 

The Basics
  • Final Score: Wisconsin-Platteville 3 - Carthage 0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-18)
  • Location: Chicago, Illinois - North Park Gymnasium.
  • Records: Wisconsin-Platteville22-5, Carthage 14-11
How it Happened
  • Carthage opened with intensity, quickly securing a 4-1 lead with strong contributions from Kristina Manojlovic, who scored the first kill, assisted by Devinn Bell
  • Jenna Damon followed up with a service ace to maintain Carthage's early momentum. The opposition quickly responded, however, cutting Carthage's lead to 6-5. 
  • Carel and Ella Pettinger stepped up with a crucial block to bring the score to 10-10, but the Wisconsin-Platteville continued to press, taking a 16-12 advantage and went on to win 25-20. 
  • Determined to even the score, Carthage came out strong in the second set, gaining an early 3-0 lead thanks to a series of well-executed plays by Bell and Kaitie Rohe
  • The opponents rallied to tie the set at 4-4, but Carthage fought to stay ahead, with kills from Rohe and Katie Boston putting Carthage up 11-8. 
  • Bell landed an ace, pushing the score to 17-14.
  • As the set continued, both teams remained neck and neck. Carthage held steady until the final points, but after a late surge from Wisconsin-Platteville sealed it 25-23.
  • Looking to change the momentum, Carthage started the third set with back-to-back aces from Macy Wente
  • Despite their early lead, Wisconsin-Platteville managed to keep a strong offensive rhythm. After a timeout with Carthage trailing 12-7, Carel landed a critical kill to stop the opposing team's momentum. 
  • Despite continued efforts from Carthage's defense and an ace from Bell, Wisconsin-Platteville ultimately took the set 25-18, securing a 3-0 match victory.

High Flyers
  • Kaitie Rohe led the Firebirds in kills for the second straight match, finishing with 11. 
  • Macy Wente had a team-best three aces along with Devinn Bell adding 23 assists. 
  • Jenna Damon and Liv Carel recorded double-digit digs finishing with 11 and 10, respectively. 


Coachs Remarks
"Tough battle with a ranked opponent. We were going point by point with them in the first two sets and didn't execute down the home stretch. Kaitie Rohe and Kristina Manojlovic led the offense. Now time to rest and get ready for Wednesday with our CCIW match at Augustana.
