ALBION — The Carthage College women's wrestling team continued their 2024-25 campaign on Sunday at the Albion Open. It was another positive step forward for the Firebirds, with two athletes finishing in the top three in their respective divisions.

Kirsten Cortez opened the tournament with a bye before earning a win by fall over Abigail Alvarado (Manchester) (Fall 0:42). Cortez then defeated Lexi Doerflinger (Hiram) (Fall 2:51) to advance to the first place match. In the first place match, Cortez fell to Makayla Young (Indiana Tech) by tech fall to earn a second place finish (TF 10-0).

Rebecca Di Silvestro fell in the opening round to Lynsey Light (Albion) by tech fall (TF 10-0). Di Silvestro received a bye in the consolation bracket before falling to Julia Snyder (Rochester Christian) (Fall 0:42).

Natalie Majer opened the day with a win by tech fall over Arisna Stott (Indiana Tech) (TF 10-0). In the quarterfinal, Majer won by tech fall against Charlotte Pedroza (Joliet Junior) (TF 10-0). Majer advanced to the semifinal match, where she fell to Ana Malovich (Grand Valley State) (TF 10-0) and moved to the consolation semifinal. Majer then won by decision over Stott (Dec 10-9) to advance to the third place match, where she would claim third place with a tech fall victory over Elizabeth Dollar (Indiana Tach) (TF 10-0).

Alaina Hollendoner fell in the opening round to Paola Villarruel (Manchester) (Fall 1:19). She then was defeated in the consolation bracket by Becca Waterman (Indiana Tech) (Dec 6-3).

Adele Senzig received a bye in the opening round before falling to Keaton Hood (Albion) in the second round (TF 16-6). Senzig moved to the consolation bracket, where she defeated Adriana Cabello (Unattached) (TF 10-0). Senzig's day ended after a loss to Brooklyn Figueroa (Indiana Tech) (Fall 5:15).


Jennifer Villagomez opened the tournament with a win over Emma Skipper (Trine) (Fall 0:24). She then fell in the second round to Phoenix Waters (Siena Heights) by way of a fall (Fall 1:07). Villagomez concluded the day with a loss to Maryam Ndiaye (Augustana) (TF 10-0).

Sierra Pienkowski opened the day with a loss to Talia Mitchell (John Carroll) (Dec 10-2) before falling to Haley Diaz (Indiana Tech) (TF 12-2).

Makenna Bovee received a bye to start the tournament before falling by tech fall to Krysta Luce (Grand Valley State) (TF 12-2). Bovee once again received a bye in the consolation bracket, and later fell to Loralei Smith (Indiana Tech) (Fall 0:54).
