ADRIAN — The Carthage College women's wrestling team traveled to Michigan on Sunday to compete in the Adrian College Open. It was another positive day for the Firebirds, as several wrestlers finished on the podium and scored points for the team score.

Kirsten Cortez opened the tournament with a victory by tech fall over Shelby Moore (Lourdes) (TF 1.5 4:08 (14-1)). Cortez then used another tech fall to advance past Cianelys Plaud (Sienna Heights) (TF-1.5 1:26 (10-0)). In the championship bracket quarterfinal, Cortez fell to Odelia Lopez (Schreiner) (Fall 1:45). Cortez joined the consolation bracket in round 4, where she fell to Jeulenea Khang (West Liberty) (Dec 5-0).

Rebecca Di Silvestro fell in the opening round to Aaliyah Payne-Parris (Sacred Heart) (TF-1.5 4:11 (10-0)). Entering the consolation bracket, Di Silvestro received a bye before falling to Emma Bowers (Hiram) (Fall 3:40).

Natalie Majer opened the day with a win over Alexa Cappadocia (Brock) (TF-1.5 0:30 (10-0)). Majer then fell to Dianna Holmes (King) (TF-1.5 2:17 (13-2)) to move into the consolation bracket. In the consolation round, Majer was defeated by Samantha Yap (Sacred Heart) (Fall 2:50).

Alaina Hollendoner received a bye in the opening round before falling to Emma Rinehart (Lourdes) in the second round of the championship bracket (TF-1.5 3:27 (11-0)). Hollendoner's day came to an end after falling to Courtni Chuway (Indiana Tech) (TF-1.5 3:22 (11-1)).

Margaret Anders also opened the day with a Round 1 bye. In the second round, Anders fell to Kennedy Hsu (McKendree) (Fall 0:24). In the consolation bracket, Anders came up short against Jenna Thompson (Trine) (Fall 0:44)

Taya Stanford opened the day with a victory over Izzy Samczuk (Otterbein) (Fall 4:30). Stanford would then fall to Trinity Butler (Frostburg State) (Fall 5:09). In the consolation bracket, Stanford would face off against teammate Madison Cook.
Cook opened the day with a loss to Kayla Zeppetelli (New Jersey City) (Fall 2:08). Cook entered the consolation bracket and defeated Samantha Bultron (Fall 1:05), and then defeated Stanford (Fall 0:36). She went on to face Callie Alfieri (North Central (Ill.)) and fall to the CCIW foe (Fall 0:41). Cook advanced to the seventh place match, where she met Zepetelli for the second time in the tournament, losing by way of fall (Fall 3:33) and finishing in eighth place.

Jennifer Villagomez fell to Alexus Shaneyfelt (Siena Heights) in the opening round (Fall 0:51). After receiving a bye in Consolation Round 1, before falling in the second round to Talia Robles (Elmira) (Fall 1:37).

Sierra Pienkowski opened the day with a loss to Haley Diaz (Indiana Tech) (Fall 0:59). In the consolation bracket Pienkowski earned a bye and then defeated teammate Izzee Nelson-Carillo (TF-1.5 0:00 (6-0)). Pienkowski earned a win in the third round of the consolation bracket over Madalaine Menchaca (Indiana Tech) (Fall 4:42). In the consolation semifinals, Kenley Riley (Alma) defeated Pienkowski (Fall 5:59), sending Pienkowski to the fifth place match. In the fifth place match, Pienkowski fell to Diaz to finish in sixth place (Fall 0:34).
Nelson-Carrillo received an opening round bye before falling to Caroline Gilstrap (McKendree) in the quarterfinal round (TF-1.5 1:14 (10-0)). She went on to fall to teammate Pienkowski in the consolation bracket.

Makenna Bovee claimed a first round win over Keira Roberts (Brock) (TF-1.5 5:23 (12-0)). In the quarterfinal, Bovee fell to Christina Chavez (Gannon) (Fall 4:51). In the consolation bracket, Bovee fell against Lesli Sanchez (Mount Union) (Fall 0:46).
