Sneed’s Sack Leads to Firebirds' Win over Big Blue

DECATUR  — The Carthage College football team earned their first win of the season in comeback fashion beating Millikin 24-20 on the road. 

The Basics
  • Final score: Carthage 24 - Millikin 20

  • Records: Carthage 1-6 (1-5 CCIW), Millikin 0-7 (0-6 CCIW)


How it Happened 
  • Millikin struck first, but a four-play, 17-yard rush from Bryce Frank leveled the score at seven.  
  • Though the Big Blue held a 17-7 lead at halftime, Carthage closed the gap to three after a 16-yard touchdown pass from Bryce Lowe to Frank, bringing the score to 17-14.
  • Mugdim Kreho's 37-yard field goal tied the game at 17, though Millikin soon answered with a 26-yard field goal.
  • With 53 seconds remaining in regulation, Carthage took the lead when Lowe connected with Gavin Betts on a 17-yard touchdown pass. 
  • On Millikin's next possession, Michael Sneed secured the win with a crucial fourth-down sack with 26 seconds left. 


High Flyers
  • Bryce Frank rushed for 113 yards, adding one touchdown to his performance.
  • Michael Sneed led the defense with six total tackles, including two for a loss.
  • Ramon Campos followed with five tackles, also recording two tackles for a loss.
  • Amarie Hill contributed four tackles and one interception for Carthage.
