Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Two Goal Day for Yumange Propels Carthage Past Elmhurst

Carthage 3, Elmhurst 0
KENOSHA - The Carthage men's soccer team returned to Art Keller Field on Saturday afternoon for a match against the Elmhurst Bluejays. Early offense for the Firebirds set the tone in the first half, while the defense stood strong in the second half to earn the fifth shut out victory of the season for the Firebirds.

How it Happened

Senior Mickey Reilly got the offensive action started in the 16th minute with a goal to give the Firebirds an early 1-0 lead. Jordan Mok and Aidan Crowder both earned assists to set up the Reilly goal. Jethro Yumange wasted no time extending the lead, netting an unassisted goal in the 19th minute to give the Firebirds a 2-0 cushion. The Firebirds and the Bluejays kept each other from scoring for the remainder of the opening 45 minutes.

In the second half, the two squads battled back and forth for the majority of the half without either side finding the back of the net. In the 86th minute, Yumange found a loose ball in front of the net and scored with a kick from his left foot while spinning on his right leg back towards the goal. The Firebirds went on to take the match 3-0.

High Flyers

  • Yumange scored his fifth and sixth goals of the year.
  • Reilly scored his eighth goal of the season. He currently leads the Firebirds in goals scored this season.
  • Goalkeeper Evan Kowalski registered 9 saves in the match, tying his season high from the Sept. 17 match against MSOE. He now has 76 saves on the season.
