Firebirds Push Millikin to the Brink in Five-Set Battle

KENOSHA  — In their home match against No. 9 Millikin the Carthage College women's volleyball team fought hard against the Big Blue but fell 3-2 on Wednesday night. 

The Basics
  • Final Score: No. 9 Millikin 3 - Carthage 2 (23-25, 18-25, 25-20, 25-16, 15-11)

How it Happened
  • Carthage opened the first set with an 8-4 lead, highlighted by a kill from Kristina Manojlovic.
  • Despite Millikin briefly pulling ahead by three, the Firebirds responded with a 6-1 run, ending with a kill from Liv Carel.
  • Kaitie Rohe added consecutive kills to help secure the first set for Carthage, 25-23.
  • The Firebirds carried their momentum into the second set, with a Devinn Bell kill pushing the lead to 16-9.
  • A block by Bell and Katie Boston extended the Firebirds' advantage to 23-16, and a Rohe kill sealed the set at 25-18.
  • Millikin surged back in the third set, jumping out to a 13-6 lead.
  • Manojlovic's ace brought the score to 21-17, but Millikin claimed the set with a final kill.
  • The Big Blue dominated the fourth set, leading by 11 points and forcing a decisive fifth set with a 25-16 win.
  • In the fifth, both teams fought for control. A solo block by Rohe gave Carthage a three-point edge, but Millikin capitalized on an attack error to gain the lead.
  • Carel tied the set at 11 with a kill, but Millikin responded with four straight points to win the match, 15-11.

High Flyers
  • Kristina Manojlovic led the Firebirds in kills with 17 on the day, marking the seventh time this season she has recorded double-digit kills. 
  • Kaitie Rohe followed closely with 12 along with 12 from Liv Carel
  • For the third time this season, Devinn Bell totaled 40 or more assists finishing tonight's contest with 41. 
  • Jenna Damon registered 31 digs in the match, five shy of her season-best.
