Men's Soccer Loses Offensive Battle with Wheaton

KENOSHA - The Carthage men's soccer team hosted the Wheaton (Ill.) Thunder at Art Keller Field on Wednesday evening. In a night full of offense, the Firebirds struggled to keep with the rolling Thunder offense and fell 7-3 in regular time.

How it Happened

The Thunder wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, with Pryse Anderson scoring in the fifth minute. The Thunder lead quickly went away as Mickey Reilly registered a goal 40 seconds later to level the match at 1-1. Jethro Yumange and Jordan Mok registered assists on the play. Wheaton's Kyle Johnson took back the lead less than a minute later to make the score 2-1 after six minutes of play. Mason Louth extended the lead to 3-1 with a goal in the 20th minute. In the 23rd minute, Aidan Crowder utilized a breakaway opportunity and scored to cut the deficit to 3-2. Anderson extended the Wheaton in the 29th minute to 4-2, which the Thunder would take into the half.

The Thunder tallied two more goals in the 62nd and 75th minutes to extend the lead to 6-2. Dennis Valle scored an unassisted goal for the Firebirds in the 78th minute to cut the deficit to 5-3. Another goal for the Thunder in the 87th minute to close out the match.
