Firebirds End Homecoming With Thrilling Victory Over Elmhurst

KENOSHA, Wis. - Continuing conference play, the Carthage College football squad defeated Elmhurst 27-20 on homecoming on Saturday afternoon. 

The Basics
  • Final score: Carthage 27 - Elmhurst 20
  • Location: Kenosha, Wis. - Art Keller Field 
  • Records: Carthage 1-3 (1-2 CCIW), Elmhurst 1-3 (0-3 CCIW)

How it Happened
  • After Elmhurst took a 14-0 score into halftime, Carthage got on the board with a 24-yard run from Bryce Frank
  • Bryce Lowe hit Gibson Groves on a 12-yard pass for another Firebirds touchdown, tying the game at 14. 
  • Elmhurst responded in the fourth with a touchdown pass; however, Jy'Lique Barnes blocked the extra point for a 20-14 score. 
  • Carthage used the next drive and scored on a two-yard pass to Jordan Wiles
  • A sack by Ethan Ivan on the next possession forced the fumble out, which was recovered by Cristobal Gutierrez Jr. 
  • On the next play, Frank found the endzone again on a 20-yard rush for a 27-20 score. 
  • On the final drive, the Firebirds' defense forced three consecutive incompletes, sealing the victory for Carthage. 

High Flyers
  • Bryce Lowe tossed for 315 yards through the air and had two touchdown passes, while Bryce Frank rushed for 69 yards and two scores. 
  • Argjent Ismaili grabbed eight receptions for a season-best 138 yards, followed by Gavin Betts had 57 yards and four receptions. 
  • Defensively, Chris DiVito had eight solo tackles, along with Cristobal Gutierrez Jr. with five total tackles. 
  • Heading into today's contest, DiVito led the conference in tackles with 33.
  • Oliver Cox had one forced fumble and five tackles.
