Women’s Volleyball Stung in Home Opener

KENOSHA, Wis. - Playing in their season home opener, the Carthage College women's volleyball team battled No. 20 Wisconsin-Stevens Point, falling 3-1 Friday night inside Tarble Arena.

How it Happened
  • Three-straight kills from Kaitie Rohe and Leena Ajibola gave Carthage a 10-6 advantage in the first set. 
  • Kristina Manojlovic used two kills of her own to propel the Firebirds to a 21-12 score. 
  • Carthage took the first set 25-16. 
  • The Pointers rallied in the second, going ahead 14-9 early. 
  • Though two kills from Katie Boston and Rohe shrunk the deficit to four, the visitors won the second 25-18. 
  • In the third, Wisconsin-Stevens Point took control 14-11 with a kill; however, kills from Manojlovic, Kinsey Bakhaus, and Rohe tied it at 14. 
  • Carthage kept close with the Pointers, tying it at 24 with a kill from Bakhaus. 
  • The Pointers won the set off a kill and ace 26-24. 
  • The momentum for Wisconsin-Stevens Point continued in the fourth as the visitors controlled a 10-4 score. 
  • The Firebirds rallied, using kills from Liv Carel and Manojlovic to get within one. 
  • An 11-4 run for the visitors widened the gap to eight as the Pointers won the set 25-16.

  • Carthage stays at home, facing DePauw on Saturday, September 16, at 11 a.m. before ending the day with an evening match against Edgewood at 5 p.m.
