Firebirds Split Second Day of Invite

KENOSHA, Wis. - Rounding out the weekend's competition rolling through DePauw 3-0  before falling in the final game of the day to Edgewood 3-1.

Game One
  • Final score: Carthage 3 - DePauw 0

  • Final score: Edgewood 3 - Carthage 1 
  • Location: Kenosha, Wis. - Tarble Arena 
  • Records: Edgewood 5-4, Carthage 5-6

How it Happened
  • The Firebirds started the day with a 7-4 margin in the first with a kill from Katie Boston
  • Later, Kaitie Rohe added a kill, moving the score to 16-9. 
  • A kill from Leena Ajibola and an ace from Madilyn Danielson extended the lead to 23-14 as Carthage won the first 25-14. 
  • The momentum continued for the Firebirds in the second, going ahead 16-8 off a DePauw attack error. 
  • The Tigers battled back, getting within four with an ace, forcing a Carthage timeout. 
  • Rohe added another kill, holding the Firebird advantage to four. 
  • A Tigers attack error won it for Carthage, 25-17. 
  • The home team opened the third with a 20-6 run. 
  • Carthage picked up the straight-set sweep with a kill from Ella Pettinger
 
  • In game two, the Firebirds shrunk a four-point deficit with back-to-back kills from Liv Carel and Katie Rohe.
  • Tatum Kebisek served her 22nd ace of the season, cutting the Eagles lead to two.
  • Edgewood held on to win the first set 25-20. 
  • The Firebirds started the second set ahead 3-0, sparked by two kills by Boston and Kristina Manojlovic.  
  • After the visitors battled back to gain control of the set, Carthage tied it at 15 with a block from Boston and Manojlovic.
  • Though the Eagles went up 23-21, the Firebirds closed the set, scoring the next five points to win 25-23. 
  • Carthage put together a 7-1 run early in the third, highlighted by kills from Rohe and Boston and an ace from Aubree Bucheger
  • Edgewood responded by going up two with back-to-back kills. 
  • A Rohe kill shrank the lead to one, but the visitors put together three unanswered points to win the set 25-21. 
  • The Eagles jumped to a 16-8 margin in the fourth. 
  • Boston connected on two-straight aces, narrowing the gap to seven, and later, a kill from Carel cut it to four. 
  • A service error won the match for Edgewood 25-20.
