BOSTON, Mass.- The Carthage women's soccer team opened up their 2023 season with a trip to Massachusetts to take on the Gordon College Fighting Scots. The Scots used a goal late in the first half to jump ahead and never look back, defeating the Firebirds to start the weekend.

The Fighting Scots controlled the offensive tempo for most of the first half, yet the home team struggled to find the back of the net despite the offensive production. Gordon scored the lone goal of the game with a shot from Eowyn Lapp in the 36
th minute.

The Firebirds defense held on to keep the game within one goal, but the offense could not produce the game-tying goal before the end of regulation.
