Firebirds Begin Season at Macalester

ST. PAUL, Minn. - After opening the 2023 season on the road, the Carthage men's soccer team fell 3-0 against Macalester on Friday afternoon.

How it Happened
  • The Scots got on the board within 15 minutes of the first half, holding a slim lead into halftime.
  • Carthage came out strong in the second with several shots to open the half.
  • Mickey Reilly had a notable shot attempt at 47:45, saved by the Scots.
  • The Scots' keeper again saved Luis Garduno's shot at 48:32.
  • Collin Moran and Jethro Yumange of Carthage also had shots but failed to find the target.
  • The Firebirds continued to press, with Jack Georgi taking a shot at 60:27.
  • Two goals for Macalester sealed the victory for the Scots 3-0.

"Not the start we wanted. Macalester played well and deserved the win, but we started the game very slowly and never found our rhythm," second-year head coach Paul Leese said. "The good news is we have just 48 hrs until our home opener on Sunday and an opportunity to redeem ourselves."
