Men's Soccer Wins Big in Home Opener

KENOSHA, Wis. - The Carthage men's soccer team defeated the Concordia (Wis.) 3-2 on Sunday evening in their home-opener. 

• Final score: Carthage 3 - Concordia (Wis.) 2

• Location: Kenosha, WI - Art Keller Field

• Records: Carthage 1-1-0, Concordia(Wis.) 1-1-0

• Luis Garduno had a notable shot attempt at 13:10, saved by the Falcons to start the game. 

• The Firebirds got on the board early within the first eight minutes of play, and with a late score by Concordia(Wis.) in the first half, the Firebirds entered halftime tied 1-1. 

• The Firebirds had back to back shot attempts by Aidan Crowder and Mickey Reilly during the second half. 

• After tying it up at 2-2 in the 80th minute, a goal from Aidan Crowder assisted by Jethro Yumange gave the Firebirds the lead heading into the final minutes of play. 

• Carthage held on to win 3-2. 

• Aidan Crowder, Nick Renfro, Luis Garduno each added one goal.

• Senior goalkeeper Thomas Howard IV added one save to the Firebirds' effort. 

• Aidan Crowder led the team with two shots on goal, while Luis Garduno, Christian Hinestrosa, Nick Renfro, Trevor Molitor, and Dennis Valle all added one attempt.

"It was important to get a win in our first game at home in front of our fans. We played well but need to be more consistent throughout the 90 mins."

"It was great to have 3 seniors score and show strong leadership tonight. It is still early in the season so we will continue to grow and get stronger with each game."

• Carthage will return to the field on Thursday, September 7 playing Benedictine (Ill.) on the road.
