Baseball Drops Slugfest to Lawrence

KENOSHA, Wis.  — In the season's final home game, the Carthage College baseball team fell to Lawrence 17-14 on Thursday.

  • Final score: Lawrence 17 - Carthage 14
  • Location: Kenosha, Wisconsin - Augie Schmidt Field
  • Records: Lawrence 14-20, Carthage 8-28


How it Happened
  • Collin Callahan got the Firebirds going in the opening inning with an RBI single. 
  • Later in the inning, P.J. Moser hit a two-RBI single to right field that scored Kody Krekling and Callahan. 
  • The Vikings tied it at three in the third; however, in the bottom half of the inning, Nick Caruso singled to left field, scoring Joe Zuleger. 
  • Lawrence retaliated with eight runs in the fourth. 
  • A two-RBI double from Moser sparked a two-run inning for the Firebirds shrinking the deficit to 11-6. 
  • With momentum on their side, Carthage plated six runs in the fifth, going ahead by one with an RBI single from Mike Ciesla. 
  • Following three runs from Lawrence in the sixth, Callahan homered, keeping the deficit at one. 
  • The visitors added to their lead in the seventh with two runs. 
  • In the eighth, Zuleger doubled to left center, scoring Tostrud at 16-14. 
  • Lawrence added a lone run in the ninth and held on to win 17-14.
