Ninth-Place National Finish in Shot Put Concludes Special Season for Schoeneman

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The 2022-2023 track & field season has come to a close for Carthage junior Aubrey Schoeneman, who took ninth place at the 2023 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Friday afternoon.

Schoeneman's second throw of the day allowed her to advance to the finals, where she ultimately finished in ninth. Her throw of 13.97m fell just .03m shy of her PR - an excellent feat for the junior from Mercer, Wisconsin. The 13.97m heave is the seventh-farthest throw in the event in program history. Schoeneman took 16th in discus on Thursday morning and, back in March, took ninth in the shot put at the indoor national championships; Aubrey's top throw at the indoor championships was 13.98m - nearly identical to her mark on Friday.

The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-North Region honoree, who was also crowned as the winner of Carthage's esteemed Frank Falduto Award at this year's annual Embers Awards Show, made her mark this year. During indoor season, Schoeneman launched the fifth-farthest shot put throw in program history (13.95m) before topping that mark at nationals. A 14.00m heave from Schoeneman in the shot put during outdoor season, which allowed her to qualify for outdoor nationals, is the sixth-farthest throw in the event in program history. The junior would go on to become a CCIW Champion in the event at the conference's outdoor championships. Aubrey also launched the eighth-farthest discus throw in program history this season (44.67m).

Senior Alexis Mattox will close out the weekend for Carthage in the circle tomorrow, Saturday, May 27 at 10:00 a.m. ET for the hammer throw.

Coach's Remarks

"Today was another strong showing for Aubrey, in similar fashion as indoor nationals she made the final from flight one," remarked Carthage Firebirds assistant track & field coach Greg Raimondi. "The ending result wasn't exactly what we were hoping for, with Aubrey missing out on All-American honors by one spot to finish ninth. However, this does highlight the ability for Aubrey to compete in moments when it matters, which isn't an easy task. I am proud of her for an amazing year and competing well when it mattered the most. Cannot wait to see what she can accomplish next year."
