ROCHESTER, N.Y. - On day one of the 2023 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the Northeast, Carthage Firebirds junior thrower
Aubrey Schoeneman placed 16th in the discus throw.
Schoeneman, a U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Region honoree in discus, was seeded 17th coming into the championships. The Mercer, Wisconsin native's third and final throw of the day out of the circle propelled her up a spot in the final national standings, with Schoeneman taking 16th place on a throw of 42.23m. Schoeneman's final throw was over six meters farther than her first throw of the day, allowing her to climb the standings.
Though the junior may have concluded her season in discus, there's still more work to do for Aubrey in Rochester. Schoeneman will compete in the shot put tomorrow, Friday, May 26 at 4:00 p.m. ET. Fellow-thrower
Alexis Mattox takes to the circle on Saturday, May 27 at 10:00 a.m. ET for the hammer throw.
"Coming into the meet today we had the mindset of competing well and setting up for a good day two in the shot put. I think Aubrey did just that and held her own in a good field," remarked Carthage Firebirds assistant track & field coach
Greg Raimondi. "Bouncing back with her third-best throw of the season after two rough first round throws - managing to do that is hard and highlights her ability to be a competitor when it's needed. We're excited to see what she can do tomorrow."
