Offense Comes Alive in Season Home Opener

KENOSHA, Wis.  — The Carthage College baseball team hammered five home runs and 14 hits as they defeated Wheaton (Ill.) 16-6 in the season's home opener Wednesday afternoon.

How it Happened
  • After the Thunder got on the board first, Carthage responded in the bottom half inning with an RBI single from P.J. Moser. 
  • Kody Krekling belted a three-run homer in the second moving the score to 4-1. 
  • A six-run fourth inning for the Firebirds moved the margin to 10-1, sparked by a three-run home run from Joe Zuleger. 
  • Collin Callahan knocked a two-run homer in the fifth, extending the margin to 11 in the fifth. 
  • Wheaton (Ill.) scored five runs in the sixth before Carthage plated three in the bottom frame, highlighted by a solo home run from Lucas Hines. 
  • Zuleger won the game with a walk-off homer in the seventh for the 16-6 final.
