Carthage Baseball Fall in Non-Conference Single Contest to Ripon

KENOSHA, Wis.  — The Carthage College baseball team dropped a close non-conference Tuesday tilt to Ripon 9-8 at home. 

The Basics
  • Final score: Ripon 9 - Carthage 8
  • Location: Kenosha, Wisconsin - Augie Schmidt Field
  • Records: Ripon 12-11, Carthage 7-19 

How it Happened
  • A solo home run from Kody Krekling gave Carthage a 1-0 score in the first. 
  • In the second inning, a two-run double for Ripon flipped the score to 2-1. 
  • Collin Callahan hit a two-run double in the third, which saw the Firebirds go up by one. 
  • AJ Gaca added a solo home run in the fifth, moving the score to 5-2.
  • Ripon plated two runs in the seventh, shrinking the deficit to one. 
  • An RBI single in the eighth tied it at five, and a sac fly gave Ripon the advantage by one.  
  • A two-RBI single for the Redhawks extended the lead to 8-5 until an RBI single from Chuckie Smith scored Wayne Karlstedt from second. 
  • Later in the inning, Cody Tostrud hit an RBI single to right field, cutting the margin to one. 
  • The visitors tacked on a lone run in the ninth, but a pinch-hit homer from P.J. Moser cut it to one. 
  • A swinging strikeout won it for Ripon 9-8. 

High Flyers
  • Kody Krekling hit his second home run of the season and hit a double in the contest. 
  • AJ Gaca registered his third homer on the day followed by P.J. Moser who hit his first of the season.  
  • Cody Tostrud, currently on a five-game hitting streak, had a hit and drove in a run. 

Team Results
 
  • The Firebirds return to the diamond on Saturday, April 22 for a doubleheader at North Park starting at 12 p.m.
