Strong Start to Outdoor Season Continues for Firebirds in Wheaton

WHEATON, Ill. - After third and fourth-place finishes in Waukesha and Naperville, respectively, the Carthage Firebirds women's track & field team put together another impressive showing - this time taking third at the Wheaton Invitational.

Aubrey Schoeneman (discus) and Alexis Mattox (hammer) both took first in their respective throws events to lead the throws unit, while a number of other throwers performed exceptionally as well.

Aside from the performances from Schoeneman in the discus and Mattox in the hammer, the team recorded top-three finishes in the 5,000-meter run (Ka. Smith, Ky. Smith), the triple jump (Calhoun), and the shot put (Schoeneman); Dora Dill placed third in the hammer, finishing less than a meter shy of second place behind Mattox.

Coach's Remarks

"We continue to improve in many areas on the track and in the field at the Wheaton Invitational this weekend," noted Carthage College head women's track & field coach Stephanie Domin

"Aubrey Schoeneman had an amazing weekend in the shot put and in discus. Both are lifetime PRs. For the discus, this mark ranks her seventh nationally and eighth on the Carthage all-time list. The shot put ranks her eighth nationally and sixth on the Carthage all-time list."

"Anna Kegel continues to shine in the 100-meter dash with a lifetime PR of 12.56. This mark puts her on the Carthage all-time list at number nine. She also placed fourth in the 4x100 relay with a season-best time with Teresa Topolski, Christina Hall, and Sarah Kerfin."

"Abbey Calhoun finished third in the triple jump with a mark of 11.20m. This mark ranks her 39th nationally and third on the all-time list."
