Carthage Pushes Win Streak to Four; Poitras Scores Seven For the Second Time this Season

LISLE, Ill.  — The Carthage College men's lacrosse team started the week with a 21-14 win over Benedictine (Ill.) to earn their sixth win of the season. 

The Basics
  • Final score: Carthage 21 - Benedictine 14
  • Location: Lisle, Illinois - Village of Lisle-Benedictine University Sports Complex
  • Records: Carthage 6-1, Benedictine 0-6

How it Happened 
  • The Eagles began the contest up 2-1 until the Firebirds rattled off six unanswered goals. 
  • Carthage closed out the second quarter with goals from Timmy Martino Jr., Alec Gern, and Ben Krok for an 11-5 advantage heading into halftime. 
  • Benedictine (Ill.) got one on the board to start the third; however, George Burchfield pushed the Firebirds' lead to six. 
  • Following the home team netting three unanswered goals, Gern and Andrew Johnson put in goals for a 14-9 score.
  • Colin Poitras closed the third with a goal as the Firebirds headed to the final quarter up 16-11. 
  • Carthage concluded the game with five goals in the fourth for the 21-14 win. 

High Flyers
  • Colin Poitras had a team-best seven goals in the game, marking the fourth time this season a member of the Carthage team has scored seven goals in a single contest. 
  • The seven goals by Poitras is the second time this season he has scored seven in a single game. 
  • Alec Gern added six goals for the Firebirds, followed by Andrew Johnson with three and Timmy Martino Jr. with two. 
  • Johnson had a team-high five assists for eight points, while Poitras had four assists for 11 points. 
  • In goal, Jake Williamson picked up the win making only one save in the contest.
