BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Junior thrower
Aubrey Schoeneman represented the Carthage women's track & field team well in Birmingham at the 2023 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships, taking ninth place in the shot put with a personal-best throw of 13.98 meters.
The rising star eclipsed her previous lifetime best by .03 meters at the championships, earning Carthage's best national finish in the event (indoor shot put) since Elizabeth Willis earned a third-place finish in 2019 (14.48m). Leading into her outstanding performance at the NCAA Championships, Schoeneman recorded nine top-three finishes in the shot put, winning the event at five meets this season.
Schoeneman and the Firebirds now turn their attention to outdoor season, with competition beginning on April 1 in Waukesha.
"We are super proud of Aubrey's performance today," remarked Carthage head women's track & field coach
Stephanie Domin. "She had a lifetime PR at her first NCAA Championships - which is difficult to do. She really came to compete!"
"Aubrey represented Carthage's women's track & field team so well today and her coaches and teammates could not be more proud of her."
Carthage College assistant track and field coach
Greg Raimondi noted that "Aubrey did an amazing job today and should be very proud of her indoor season. Getting a PR at a national meet, let alone your first-ever national meet, isn't something that happens very often. I am incredibly proud of her and can't wait to see what she can accomplish this outdoor season."
