Firebirds Fall At Home, Pick Up First Conference Loss

KENOSHA, Wis. - The Carthage women's basketball team fell 72-51 against Augustana in a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) match-up on Saturday.

  • Final score: Augustana 72 -  Carthage 51

  • Records: Carthage 5-3 (CCIW 1-1) - Augustana 4-4 (CCIW 1-1) 
How it Happened
  • Carthage's Margueret Spear's three-pointer, assisted by Marianna Morrissey, kicked off the Firebirds' offense in the first quarter. 
  • After trailing for most of the first quarter, the Firebirds gained the lead, 12-11, begin a three-pointer from Addison Ebeling. 
  • The Firebirds led 16-13 going into the second quarter. 
  • Carthage maintained the momentum, up 21-18, with five minutes left. 
  • Both teams scored with seconds left, trimming the Firebirds lead down to one-point, 27-26, heading into halftime. 
  • Carthage's Ebeling kicked off the third quarter with a jumper in the first minute of play, giving the Firebirds the lead 29-28. 
  • The Firebirds struggled in the final minute of the third period, and found themselves trailing by ten, 46-36, going into the fourth quarter.
  • Carthage could not catch up down the stretch, which resulted in a 72-51 loss to Augustana.
